Do you want to know about the ancient times of Greece and Rome?  Well, they had many interesting myths, gods, and temples.

 

They had myths about the beginning of things.  In the beginning, Father Chaos and Mother Night had a child named Mother Earth.  She had a son named Unronanos.  Then Mother Earth had six ugly children, the Cyclopes and the hundred-handed ones.  Then she had six more children, the Titons.  But Unronanos threw the first six ugly children into Tortures.  Mother Earth then gave the sickle to Kronos and said, “Kill your own father!”  Kronos did so.  He killed Uronanos and married Rhea.

 

So Kronos had many children, Hades, Poseidon, Demeter, Hestia, and Hera.  Kronos did not want to be overturned like he did to Uronanos, so each time he had a son or daughter, he would eat them.  So when Rhea gave birth to Zeus, she hid him while Kronos ate a rock.  So when Zeus grew up, he gave his father poison.  Then Kronos threw up all his children!

They said, “Lead us to battle, Zeus!”

So the battle raged for ten years until finally Mother Earth told Zeus to free the Cyclops.  Zeus did.  They finally won the war, and the reign of the Olympians had begun.

 

So then Zeus and Hera got married.  They had two children, both boys.  They were Ares, god of war and Hephaestus god of fire and blacksmiths.  So when Aphrodite came out of the sea foam, they both argued over her.  Then the gods drew lots for who got which power they would have.  So Zeus won the sky, Poseidon won the oceans, Hades won the earth, and so on.  So all the gods had many children.  Aphrodite had Eros as a son.  He was god of love.

 

So then Zeus got married with Leto, but he learned that if she had a child, it would be greater than its father.  So he ate Leto, titan of wisdom.  That’s how he gained his great knowledge.  Then one day he had a horrible headache.  He asked his son Hephaestus to crack his head open.  When he did, out sprang Athena, goddess of wisdom.  Then Hephaestus glued Zeus’ head back together.  Zeus then claimed her as his daughter.
